Syringomyelia is a disorder that occurs when there is an accumulation of liquid, normally in the form of a cyst, in the central part of the spinal cord. With the passing of time this cyst puts pressure on the spinal cord producing different neurological disorders: pain, weakness in arms and legs, insensitivity in parts of the body.
Diagnostic testing must be performed to determine why this liquid has accumulated and reject other associated pathologies such as Arnold-Chiari Malformation.
Treatment will depend on the clinical study and imaging tests. There are multiple therapeutic possibilities ranging from observation to the need to drain the cyst.
